The Sony Cybershot DSC-N2 camera is Texas-big in a sub-compact package! It's a 10.1 megapixel point-and-shoot camera with a 3X optical zoom and has a ton of manual controls you don't normally get in a sub-compact camera.Â
The N2's "bigness" comes not from its size in your pocket; it weighs just over 5 ounces and is roughly the size of a deck of cards. The N2's "bigness" is all about the LCD. It sports a very generous 3-inch LCD that takes up most of the backside of the camera. As a result, the camera doesn't have many buttons on it; almost all the controls are buried in touch screen menus on the LCD. You do get some really neat in-camera editing options with this camera including the ability to write on photos using the touch-screen and the included stylus. Â
The Soda Club is an $89 device that lets you make your own soda at home. No more carting cases or bottles of soda from the grocery store, no more cans to recycle, and a significant saving on every beverage you imbibe.
Watch the video to see how the Soda Club turns tap water into carbonated water and consider the savings involved. Factoring in the cost of the CO2 cartridge that creates the carbonation and the syrups you buy to make flavored sodas, each flavored home-made Soda Club drink costs about 25 cents. Compare that to the 45 cent average on store-bought sodas, and in 445 drinks, the Soda Club pays for itself. Plus it's a great choice for trying to be green: no manufacturing for the soda or using aluminum for cans or plastic for bottles, and no transportation costs to get the soda cans to the store.
Whenever you talk about print costs, you always use the razor and razorblade analogy. The manufacturers practically give the razors away because they make their money on the razorblades. The same is true of printers: The real money is spent replacing ink-jet cartridges.
The Sony Cybershot W80 is a budget entry in the Sony Cybershot line. It sports 7.2 megapixel resolution, 3X optical zoom, and a 2.5 inch LCD. It comes in multiple colors including silver, black, and pink. It records photos onto Sony's Memory Stick proprietary media format.
It also boasts Sony's new Face Detecting Technology. You may have seen the ads that proclaim "your father is not a horse's behind," basically asserting that the camera can recognize a face and make sure its in focus as opposed to other things in the shot. Overall, this is a good, budget camera. Plus it gave me an excuse to break out the riding crop, hunting jacket, and jodhpurs.Â
